HHS Makes Funding Available to Strengthen Non-Profits
and Faith Based Groups
On May 11, 2009 the Department of Health and Human Services announced that grants worth $50 million will be available from the Strengthening Communities Fund.
This is a new fund created by the American Recovery and Reinvestment act. The purpose is to strengthen those organizations that aid families and communities who are struggling in the economic downturn.

2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act
In an effort to jump start the economy, Congress has passed a massive economic stimulus package: the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The new law, as you probably have heard, weighs in at nearly $800 billion. Roughly one-third is comprised of tax incentives for individuals and businesses. Congress made many of the tax incentives retroactive to January 1, 2009. The tax incentives in the stimulus package can be broken down into two broad categories: individuals and business.
